Coming January 2025

The Beaver Stream at the University of Utah SRI

I am very excited to be starting a postdoc with Science Research Initiative at the University of Utah in January 2025.

Evapotranspiration in Beaver ponds & beaver mimicry sites in the Wasatch

A primary goal of beaver-related restoration is to build and maintain riparian wetland ecosystems; however, concerns about excessive evaporative losses have slowed beaver restoration in some places. No data currently exists independently quantifying evaporation and transpiration at beaver complexes/ mimicry sites. This study will begin to fill that gap and will provide a data-based foundation to better inform restoration efforts.

Student Project Roles

Students will have the opportunity to engage with many different aspects of this collaborative project

Environmental Water, Soil and plant Sampling

Water Isotope Data Production using a Picarro Water Isotope Analyzer

Data Analysis

Soil Pit Analysis

Updating and improving the Soil Water Isotope Storage System
